Fieldwork isn’t just a part of the program—it’s the heart of it. Students spend time at state parks, camps, and forests learning from DEC professionals and industry partners.

From forest management and environmental surveying to competing in the NYS Conservation Contest, every experience builds real-world knowledge and confidence in the field.

Environmental Conservation & Forestry at a Glance

Field-Based
Train in real environments like Whetstone Gulf, Maple Ridge, and Whitaker Camp alongside DEC and industry professionals.
Wild Careers
Explore careers in forestry, conservation, environmental law enforcement, wildlife management, and logging—no cubicle required.

Earn Industry Credentials and College Credit

We have articulation agreements with Alfred State College, Paul Smith's College, SUNY Cobleskill and Bryant & Stratton College. Students can also earn 10-hour safety card issued by Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA).

BOCES students also have the opportunity to earn up to 20 credits towards a two-year, AOS Business Degree at Jefferson Community College.
