Small Engine Training
Gain the skills and confidence to work safely with small gas and diesel engines used in mowers, generators, snowblowers, marine engines and more. Through hands-on sessions, you’ll learn how to diagnose problems, perform repairs, and keep engines running smoothly year-round.


Welcome to Small Engines
This hands-on training program is designed for anyone interested in learning the fundamentals of small gas and diesel engine maintenance and repair. Over five weeks, students will gain the knowledge and practical skills needed to safely service, troubleshoot, and maintain small engines commonly used in lawn equipment, generators, snowblowers, marine engines and more.
Course Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Work Safely with Engines: Learn essential safety practices when handling gasoline and diesel engines, fuel systems, lubricants, and electrical components.
- Identify Engine Components: Understand and identify key parts of both two-stroke and four-stroke engines, including carburetors, ignition systems, cooling systems, and more.
- Perform General Troubleshooting and Repairs: Develop skills to diagnose common engine problems such as hard starting, loss of power, fuel issues, and overheating, and carry out effective repairs and adjustments.
- Prepare Engines for Long-Term Storage: Learn proper procedures for cleaning, draining, and protecting engines to ensure reliability during periods of non-use.
- Remove Engines from Storage and Recommission: Understand how to safely and efficiently bring stored engines back into service, including inspection, lubrication, and testing steps.

Participants will receive a Certificate of Completion recognizing their proficiency in small engine safety, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
