Students will develop customer service and basic computer skills that can be used in a variety of service industries, such as restaurants, hospitals, hotels or retail settings. Study will also focus on workplace skills related to housekeeping, food preparation and service, front desk intake in hospitals or hotels, table bussing and dish washing. Personal and professional development are also covered (team work, work ethics, management skills, problem-solving, effective written and verbal communications, etc.). The broad nature of the program helps ensure students will be ready for employment in the region's rapidly expanding service industry.
This is a one to three year program for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. Students will have the opportunity to earn up to four credits per year in CTE or a combination of CTE and integrated academic credit for financial management.
Sample units of study include basic computer/money skills, customer service, hotel/hospital laundry, housekeeping, hotel maintenance, food prep and meal service and career exploration.
Career opportunities include hotel or hospital housekeeping, receptionist/front desk clerk, food preparation worker/food server, dishwasher, dining room attendant, retail sales clerk, stock clerk and hotel maintenance.
