Transition Specialists

  • Transition Specialists provide training on effective transition planning, practices and services and work with school districts to improve the school to post school transition and career development process students with disabilities. Transition Specialists will help districts prepare for the SPP Indicator 13 Self-Review as they move through a focused monitoring protocol of IEP’s regarding transition planning and services. In addition, they work closely with the Employment and Disability Institute of Cornell University and benefit from their internationally recognized expertise related to the many aspects of disability in the workplace

    Transition Specialist 
     

    Amanda Jones brings experience as a School Guidance Counselor in both public and private schools, as well as time teaching in the classroom.  Amanda holds several NYS Certification Credentials including Pre K-6, 7-9 English, School Counselor, School Building Leader and School District Leader.  She has also completed all requirements to be certified as a Coordinator of Work-Based Learning Programs for Career Awareness.  Amanda received a Bachelor’s Degree from Elmira College in Psychology and Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree from Canisus College in Counseling Education and completed her certificates of advanced study in School Leadership at SUNY Cortland. Amanda also works at Mohawk Valley Community College as an Academic Advisor.  She is passionate about working with educators to help students find success throughout the transition process.

    Transition Specialist 
     

    Carol Watros has provided programming and services for youth aged 14-21 in districts and BOCES career and technical education and special education settings for more than 25 years. She is certified school district leader, school counselor and a member of the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development, National Career Development Association, and NYS Work Experience Coordinators' Association. She is passionate about post-school planning for students and ensuring their voice is heard and looks forward to working with schools in this region.
