School Violence Prevention

All applicants for a certificate are required to complete two clock hours of course work or training in school violence prevention and intervention in accordance with Section 3004 of the Education Law. Training in school violence prevention and intervention is available through registered teacher education programs at New York State colleges and universities, Coordinated School Health Network Centers located at certain BOCES, and other services providers approved by the State Education Department (SED).

Applicants completing a teacher education program with a graduation date of May 2001 or later will be provided the required training as part of their program; these individuals do not need to submit a Certificate of Completion to SED.
