Credits by Exam

Below is information that in some instances may be used to meet certification requirements.  Please check with your certification office for details and eligibility.  

CLEP Exams

The College Level Examination Program allows one to receive college credit for knowledge you have acquired from a variety of means: prior coursework, special interest, travel, professional development, on-the-job training and more. More information about CLEP exams can be found at College Board..

CLEP offers 33 exams in five subject areas (History & Social Sciences, Composition & Literature, Science & Mathematics, Business, World Languages) covering material taught in courses that you take in the first two years of college. By passing a CLEP exam you can earn from 3 to 12 college credits (depending on the exam). Exams must not duplicate coursework already taken. 

The current cost of a CLEP exam is $80. Frameworks and study guides for the exams are available on the college board website.

Please be sure to request the transcript to be mailed directly to the office you choose to evaluate for your certification.

DSST Exams (Dantes)

Subject level exams are offered in diverse disciplines and over upper and lower level baccalaureate credit courses. Go to Get College Credit for more information.

Excelsior Exams

Excelsior College also offers exams for college credit, including a 6-credit Literacy Instruction in the Elementary School exam. For more information, go the Excelsior College webpage Excelsior.
