Child Abuse Identification Workshop

All applicants for Certification are required to complete two clock hours of coursework or training regarding the identification and reporting of suspected child abuse and treatment in accordance with Sections 3003(4) and 3004 of the Education Law. This training is available only from a provider approved by the New York State Education Department.

A list of providers is available on the CAProviders website maintained by the Office of Professions. Please contact the individual provider for workshop registration, date and time.

Upon completion of the workshop, the provider will give you a Certificate of Completion. Some providers will also transmit the Certificates of Completion electronically to the Office of Teaching; however, it is your responsibility to make sure that a copy of your completion form is sent either to the Office of Teaching or the BOCES who is evaluating your application.

In the case of persons completing a New York State registered education program leading to certification, no Certification of Completion will be awarded because the training is a required component of the program. No additional training is required.

Please note that some providers will be offering training that exceeds the two-hour minimum and fees vary from provider to provider.

The workshop can be obtained for free through the Mandated Reporter Resource Center at NYS Mandated Reporter. Make sure to request the “fillable form” used for teacher certification purposes.
