BOCES is the Board of Cooperative Educational Services. It is a regional public education agency which functions in New York State as an extension of local school districts. There are 38 BOCES statewide. It is governed by a BOCES Board similar to a local board of education. The CEO is the District Superintendent and BOCES employs school administrators to manage its programs, teachers, and instructional support staff to provide instruction and other specialists to provide technical assistance. Who is responsible for running a BOCES?

The BOCES Board consists of nine members who serve three-year terms. Mr. Jack J. Boak is chief executive officer of Jefferson-Lewis BOCES and also serves as District Superintendent of Schools, working with local districts as a representative of the New York State Commissioner of Education. The BOCES Board meets on the 3rd Wednesday of each month.
