Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES is looking for its next Career and Technical, Adult and Continuing Education Director who will continue our mission to serve students, schools and the community. The successful candidate will exemplify educational leadership, strong communication skills, and have a commitment to student achievement with a vision focused on the future of CTE.
Job Description
The Director is responsible for the development, implementation, improvement and marketing of the Career and Technical, Adult and Continuing Education Program. The Director is also responsible for implementing local, regional and state initiatives to accountability, along with 21st Century Technological Integration.
The duties and responsibilities of the Director of Career and Technical, Adult and Continuing Education include, but are not limited to:
- Serving as the instructional leader for all programs in Career and Technical, Adult and Continuing Education.
- Insuring the continuity, coordination and articulation of programs between the Charles H. Bohlen and Howard G. Sacket Technical Centers; and local area colleges.
- Developing and setting an annual budget and Co-Sers to support the Career and Technical, Adult and Continuing Education Program, utilizing local, state, and federal funds.
- Developing short and long-range Career and Technical Education and Adult and Continuing Education plans, including the expansion of programs and the planning and implementation of new programs based on educational feasibility, demand and community needs.
Qualifications
- N.Y.S. Certification as a School District Administrator (SDA), School District Leader (SDL) or School Administrator Supervisor (SAS).
- Three years' experience in administration (Career & Technical Education experience preferred), leading teachers in 21st Century Learning Technologies, building level experience required, and district level administration experience is preferred.

Our CTE History
The Career & Technical Education (CTE) program at BOCES began in 1969 with the opening of the Charles H. Bohlen, Jr. Technical Center in Watertown, NY and the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center in Glenfield, NY. Thousands of high school juniors and seniors from Jefferson County, Lewis County, and other parts of Northern New York have called the technical center home, learning key career skills and bringing industry into the 21st Century.

Our Students
In 2021, over 400 students graduated from the BOCES CTE program, with approximately 350 of them earning technical endorsements. Many take part in SkillsUSA, a leadership organization for CTE students focusing on trade skills and community service.
Graduates who attend college can earn credit through CTE. BOCES has articulation agreements with twenty-two colleges and universities, including our local partner, Jefferson Community College.
Alumni include head chefs at restaurants, electricians servicing military vehicles for the United States Armed Forces, graphic artists who help build visual landscapes in both television and cinema, and directors of non-profit agencies.

Our BOCES
Jefferson-Lewis-Hamilton-Herkimer-Oneida BOCES (Board of Cooperative Educational Services) offers cost-effective shared services to 18 component school districts. These services include career and technical education course offerings as well as special education, instructional and administrative support services. BOCES also serves the continuing education needs of local business, labor and industries in the community and offers a wide range of continuing education opportunities for adult learners.
Our Community
Jefferson County, NY is located in the beautiful North Country region of the state. Nestled just west of the Adirondacks, the county is home to several communities located along Lake Ontario, the St. Lawrence River, the Thousand Islands, and is located right next to Canada. The four season climate allows for everything from swimming and boating during the summer, apple picking & leaf peeping in the fall, fishing & visiting sugar/maple shacks in the spring, and snowmobiling, snowshoeing, and skiing during the winter months.
Watertown is the county seat of Jefferson. It is the media center of the North Country, housing three major television stations, numerous radio stations and a daily newspaper. It is also home to the Alex Duffy Fairgrounds, which hosts the annual Jefferson County Fair in July, the longest continually running fair in the country, as well as minor league baseball, hockey, and youth recreational programs.
Quality health care is also located in the region with several major hospitals including Samaritan Medical Center, Carthage Area Hospital, Lewis County Health System and River Hospital.
Education opportunities include numerous public schools districts and Jefferson Community College, a two year college that is part of the State University of New York (SUNY) system.
