Adult cosmetology students at the Charles H. Bohlen, Jr. Technical Center this year helped make a memorable prom for South Jefferson High School seniors while gaining valuable practical experience for themselves.
The adult students spent the morning Saturday, June 2 prepping and pampering the South Jefferson prom goers free of charge.
"It's was great experience for us," said Bohlen adult cosmetology student Jane Lampman, who helped organize the event. A parent of a South Jefferson freshman boy, Lampman said she and her fellow students came up with the idea while talking in class one day. They then reached out to the South Jefferson administration, which helped set plans in motion.
Bohlen Cosmetology Instructor Melinda Ingelhart says the adult students spent about six hours at South Jefferson helping the students get ready for the big night.
Community outreach efforts like these aren't the only hands-on experience the adult cosmetology student receive. They also hold a clinic for the community Thursday evenings. The clinics continue through June 14. Call 779-7249 for more information.
