The first years of life are a critical stage in a child's growth.   One can acquire the knowledge needed to work effectively with children in a wide variety of areas through your training in the Early Childhood Education Program at the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center.  The Early Childhood Program is a two-year program designed to prepare interested students with the required skills for entry-level employment working with young children.  Students enrolled in the program have opportunities to explore many different early childhood careers through field (internship) experiences, guest speakers, research, professional readings, field trips, and cooperative learning activities.    Some of the career opportunities include:
  • Recreation Programs
  • Family Service Programs
  • Teacher Assistant in Private/Public Schools
  • Aide in the Public School System
  • Au Pair/Nanny
  • Foster parent
  • Family Child Care provider
  • Preschool teacher

Early Childhood Education


Students who successfully complete the program can seek employment or they can continue their education in the following fields of study:

  • Early Childhood Education
  • Elementary Education
  • Liberal Arts
  • Human services
  • CDA (Child Development Associate)
Articulation agreements with the following colleges allows students to gain college credit after successful completion of two years of Early Childhood Education.
  • SUNY Cobleskill
  • Jefferson Community College
  • Herkimer County Community College
