Why Carpentry I & II?

Enter the Carpentry Program at the Howard G. Sackett Technical Center and become a real "builder of the future!"  Not only do our graduates have the skills they need to earn above average wages, but they are working in rewarding jobs that offer them plentiful opportunities all over the world.

Technology

This program is a combination of hands-on skill development and technical training that uses the most up-to date equipment and resource materials.  Emphasis is placed on the safe operation of tools required to keep pace in this dynamic building industry.  Students work on building projects to develop carpentry skills as well as problem solving and decision-making skills.  Teamwork is the key to their success.

What It Takes To Be Successful

  • Minimum 16 years old
  • Prior visitation to the program in order to understand the course goals, outcomes, and requirements
  • Positive attitude and desire to learn
  • Physical stamina to lift heavy objects and to work in shop environment i.e. kneeling, standing for long periods of time
  • Ability to read technical manuals
  • Strong math skills
  • Ability to get along, work, and communicate with many people
  • Willingness to accept responsibility for your work and actions.

College and Job Placement

Graduates move on in a variety of directions.  As many as 68% enter the construction industry immediately.  Another 23% take advantage of our college links with Delhi, Canton Tech, and Morrisville, while others pursue a related field in the military.

Our professional staff, with years of teaching, industry experience, and an awareness of the skilled labor market, enjoy a solid relationship with material vendors, suppliers and contractors in our region.  This leads to enhanced training and increased opportunities for our students in internship and work-study programs.  In addition, our staff monitors industry trends across the United States to inform students of possible opportunities outside our immediate area.
