WHY HEAVY EQUIPMENT? |
|
The Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program gives students the opportunity to develop the necessary practical skills, knowledge, and attitudes required to become a successful entry level equipment operator. Our students have the opportunity to "cross train" on many different pieces of construction equipment. They get actual "hands-on" training operating the equipment on the 100 acre training site. This gives them a "head-start" while still in high school. Second year students in good standing can have the opportunity to earn their commercial driver’s license (CDL class B) when they turn 18. Students get "over the road" practice time after school to prepare them for the driving test. During the winter months, students have the opportunity to develop basic equipment maintenance and repair skills by working on farm tractors, trucks, and construction equipment. Those students who decide to pursue further diesel mechanics training at the post secondary level have a great advantage because they can operate many different types of construction equipment for testing and diagnostic purposes. |
