Remedial Education: Students focus on math, science, and communication skills. An integral part of the class will be learning computer skills, setting up and following a budget, and banking. Participants should improve thier academics skills necessary to succeed in future vocational courses.
Work Skills
Students will learn safety, hygiene, accountability, and problem solving. A major focus will also be placed on projects and tool safety. Initially students work on individual projects. When the students' work skills and academic abilities improve, they will work on projects with other vocational classes. Shop activities near the end of the school year will focus on teamwork. Students will need to plan, communicate, and work with others to successfully complete projects.
Career and Technical
Students will also be given the chance to participate in career and technical classes. Guest speakers and field trips will be available for those who wish to explore future job and career opportunities. Emphasis will be placed on the skills and knowledge needed to survive in today's job market.
What It Takes To Be Successful
- Prior visitation in order to understand course content, requirements, and expectations.
- A positive attitude, desire to learn, and regular attendance.
- Ability to cooperate, communicate, and work well with peers and adults.
- Willingness to accept responsibility for quality of work and assignments.
- Actively participate in all shop and classroom activities.
Future
Upon completion of the course, students will be encouraged to return to their regular classrooms, as well as pursue additional career and technical studies.
